starting the departing

Well hi.



here's the thing: this is my travel blog. because i promised it and because i told you i would. all of you: my best friends, or one of my 45 mothers, my grandma, the produce guy from the grocery store, the receptionist from my dentist's office...the fedex guy. each of you that i told of my trip and you wanted to hear about it either because you were:


a) so so excited about it.
b) so so terrified for me.
c) so so polite and thought it was a nice gesture.
d) so so bored and needed something to read.
e) all of the above or some variation.


i am doing it because i love to do it. because i love to write. because i love to see things and tell stories. and because i love to share it all. and, above all else, because i hate talking on the phones. international calls are real costly and really...why pay for something you hate when you could do what you love for free dollars? yup. its just so practical, you see? you do? great.


if you haven't spoken to me in the past few weeks, you may not know that my trip, once stateside, has been upgraded (significantly) to a european adventure. apparently (and rightfully) the mothers in my life deemed the southern states of the US more dangerous than carousing alone through foreign countries. The bayous and banjos will be sorely missed. Shootdang. i think they also wanted to encourage me and allow me to do something i have wanted to do. i can never thank any of you enough.

i adore each and every one of you and find myself awed by the amount of generosity, support and genuine kindness and interest that i have encountered thus far. people will amaze you.

aw, isn't this an (uncommonly) sweet entry? yup. i thought so too.
